Can I create links to a baseline?

I'm using DOORS v8.3.

I have a request from a colleague who has a need to create links to an existing baseline. The baseline will be the target of the links, the currently active (and editable) module will be the source of the links. Can this be done? I can't see anything in either the manual or the code that would provide me with the perms to achieve this, but I can see legitimate use cases for needing to do this.

Ideally the links will be created "by reference" (there are lots of them!), so I need to enhance the existing "link.dxl" to
# add a field listing the available baselines in the target module
# all the user to pick the baseline to which the links should be made (or the current)
# pass the name and baseline of the target module
# find the baseline
# create the links to the baseline

Any help would be appreciated, even if it's a simple "You can't do that"...

Thanks,
Paul.

Hi Paul

The answer is yes, It's possible to create links to baseline, moreover as you have mentioned there are a lot of cases where this functionality is required, for instance if you're working in a system requirements spec, you should have to link to the baseline of user requirement spec instead of the current version. This functionality is supported by DOORS since along time.

You only need to have write access within the source module to create links to a baseline.

It is easy to program what you want to do, check the baseline section of the DXL reference manual, you'll find everything that you need there.

Hi,

I want to baseline the doors link between my reqts, test plan and execution. And my links are  reqts --> test plan --> execution. So, here reqts and test plan may be common for different projects but the execution will keep on changing based on results achieved. So, i did baseline set to save the links between these 3 modules. But since my execution module is modified every time so doing baseline set is versioning my reqts and test plan also every time although there is no change in that. Does any one knows how to overcome this problem? Or is there a different way of achieving this. Thanks in advance. Your help will be appreciated.
